Nice to see you! W

elcome to The Franchisor, the only magazine dedicated to franchisors and

those looking to grow or franchise their business. The Franchisor – formerly Franchisor News – was brought into being in this revamped and refreshed format due to demand from the industry to see good advice, insights and services, specifically for franchisors, all in one place.

Whether you’re a self-made franchisor or picking this up because you represent a franchise head office, or would like to grow your own business further and are considering expansion through franchising – we’re delighted to count you as a reader.

Putting the ideal content together for the readership of The Franchisor took me

on an interesting journey – and I’m sure you’ll be as intrigued and engaged with the results as I was reading them. From the pitfalls you may face if you fail to ensure the network carries out comprehensive background checks, to thorough knowledge of and compliance with the agreements your franchisees sign, the security of your business rests on good, solid advice and staying ahead of the game.

Then there’s value for money – are you getting yours? Are you seeing real results from the training you provide your franchisees, and from that which you rollout to the brand’s employees, overseen by the franchisee themselves? On page 50 Paul Matthews outlines ‘learning transfer’ – an essential ingredient for making sure your training programmes are effective.

Marketing expertise, thoughts on current and future trends and why your message is so important in franchise recruitment is to be found on page 18 from Coconut Creatives and page 44 from Printwell.

You may be thinking about your next step: legacy planning. What will your exit look like? If you’ve considered selling your business, and this will be an eventual goal for many, a former franchisor shares the wisdom of his experiences on page 46. I’m told there’s more to life than work and business (can you believe it?) and it’s important to maintain a balance and keep things in perspective. If you’re responsible for the health of a business, don’t forget to check in on your own wellbeing. Liggy Webb gives advice on avoiding stress- related burnout on page 25. Enjoy this issue – see you next time!
