n a recent report, recruitment fraud was found to be a significant problem throughout the
world, with shocking cases of staff being recruited without a criminal background check, people placed in teams without the necessary qualifications and new team members recruited to work directly with the public without a check of their digital footprint or online opinions, to ensure they don’t promote racist, homophobic or sexist views.

Crowe LLP has established a baseline cost for such fraudulent activity; UK businesses are losing £23.9billion a year. The findings also reveal the
level of complacency that businesses are continuing to show by leaving the door open to fraudsters through the lack of simple pre-employment checks.
