New year, new start ChipsAway

Andy Hodges has been the ChipsAway franchisee for Portsmouth since September 2014. Prior to owning a ChipsAway franchise, he ran a small car-leasing business, but soon became bored of the nine-to-five routine and wanted a new challenge. When he began thinking of a career move, Andy knew he still wanted to be his own boss, but this time he wanted the support of a franchise behind him. Andy says: “I wanted the backing and support of a high-profile brand that was already established. I looked at several franchises, but ChipsAway’s training and support package was the best. You can hit the ground running, as you are earning an income from day one.” Once deciding to invest in the franchise,

the next step was to undertake the training, which is followed by another advanced course a few months later. Other courses, such as social media and marketing

training, are also available on request. “I completed a month of IMI-accredited

training, and also undertook training on sales and marketing. I found this a really good basis to move forward with, but it’s a bit like learning to drive – passing your test is just the beginning!” ChipsAway’s training programme provides a fantastic basis for you to develop and grow your skills. Following training, our technical and franchise support teams are always only a phone call away to assist you with any queries or questions. “Becoming a franchisee has changed

my life. It’s given me the freedom and time to do other things I enjoy outside of work and manage my time the way I want to. I leave the house at around 7.30am and my day consists of doing estimates, booking in customers, marketing, and visiting my two employees to check everything is going okay. I’m then home for around 3pm where I follow up on leads.”

Soon, the volume of business led Andy

to invest in a second territory, and take on two employees to help him keep on top of the work! With business going from strength-to-strength, what’s next for Andy? “I’ve built a very successful business and would like to expand even further in the future. If I had any advice for prospective franchisees it would be to do your research meticulously and remember that a lot of hard work is required. With ChipsAway, you get out what you put in. But if you are ambitious and prepared to work hard, then you will be able to reap the rewards!”

Radfield Home Care

What inspired you to look for a change of career? We attended The National Franchise Exhibition, affiliated with the bfa, and met Radfield’s founders Alex Green and Hannah MacKechnie, as well as the company’s franchise team. Their clear focus on the quality of care being provided by Radfield was key to attracting us to the opportunity, along with the obvious passion we felt from the team. Throughout our franchise journey our initial views have been constantly reinforced. Radfield has a clear vision of what it wants to achieve, which is supported by strong leadership.

What made you invest in a Radfield Home Care franchise? We felt our values were closely aligned with Radfield’s. We have a passion for helping others and want to inspire independence and positivity in this generation. Radfield’s core value of ‘we are a family’ particularly resonated with us because we are cousins and have always been part of a very close family. Our ambition is to ensure that our

clients and carers all feel part of this happy family. It’s been an exciting journey so far; soon after we completed the Radfield leadership training programme, covering marketing, recruitment, systems and the brand, we secured our office in Hornchurch and recruited our first member of staff.

Why did you choose a franchise model? A franchise model removes the unknown. With the added value of working with an experienced franchisor there’s a greater likelihood of business success. The Radfield Home Care franchise package gave us an incredible start with a powerful brand, fantastic website and first-class training.

What are your ambitions for the future? We have some big ambitions. First and foremost, we want to continue to grow our client base and build a care team delivering the highest quality stay-at-home care. Over time, we would like to set up a second office in the Brentwood area, spreading our service to a wider local community. Then, over the next couple of years, we would

look to expand further across Essex to be able to help more people. We have already been named the winners of multiple awards, and have been recognised as one of London's top 20 homecare providers! We are extremely proud of this and look forward to continuing our exciting future with Radfield Home Care.
