WORKROOM TECHNIQUE

Make the paper pattern on page 79 and cut a piece of millinery wire with a length of 50 cm.

Colour the wire on all sides to match the tulle fabric using a wide- tip marker.


What you need


Tools Wire cutters


Sewing Machine with single-sided foot Material scissors PVA brush Wide-tip marker Pliers Tape measure Sewing needle Pin Beeswax Iron Awl or bodkin


Materials 20 cm lamé fabric 20 cm net fabric/stiff tulle in 2 colours 50 cm of 19 gauge millinery wire Thread that matches the tulle Blocked base Thread that matches the base shape PVA glue Paper

Paint the coloured wire with PVA glue to seal the cotton.

Stiffen the lamé with a mix of 1 part PVA and 2 parts water.

Allow the fabric to dry, then press the lamé with an iron.

Cut one rectangle of lamé with a size of 20 cm x 10 cm.


07


Remove any selvedge or damaged areas of tulle.


08


Cut four pieces with a size of 20 cm x 10 cm of each colour of tulle.
