Arching different widths of bendy plastic sideways
Cutting different widths of bendy plastic lengthwise
The seams of the bow on the bonnet are all boned with bendy plastic
Rows of pleated crin are sewn together with strips of malleus wire covered with crin tube in between to create a reverse bonnet
14. The corners of the strip can be rounded. Indicate the curve with a fineliner, for example using a spool of thread. Cut the corner roughly, then move the strip ends over a piece of sandpaper until you have the desired shape.
6. Petersham ribbon no. 5 is folded in half lengthwise and closed with a small zigzag stitch to cover a strip of bendy plastic sized 10.0 mm wide and 1.0 mm thick.
7. A strip of lamb nappa 26 mm wide is attached with PVA glue around a piece of bendy plastic sized 10.0 mm wide and 1.0 mm thick. The PVA is put on the plastic strip first, after which it is adhered to the middle of the leather strip. Next, glue is added to the non-covered parts of the leather and folded over the back side of the strip.
8. Similar to Test 07, but this time a bias-cut strip of fabric was used instead of leather.
9. Rings made using round-nose pliers.
10. Triangle cuts removed from the strip in case the wide side of the strip needs to have a strong curve on a flat surface.
11. Hole made in the strip using a hot nail, so a rivet can be attached. Holes can also be made with a drill.
12. Small holes poked in the strips with a hot needle so they can be sewn onto each other.
13. The strips can be glued with a plastic adhesive or something similar if they are degreased with acetone first.
15. Unfortunately it is not possible to change the colour of the strips using spray paint. When you run your nail over it, the paint comes off immediately.
16. Changing the colour with nail polish has the same result as using spray paint.
17. To add extra strength, millinery wire is taped lengthwise against the strip using paper tape. This provides extra stability, enabling the strip keep its new shape when bent.
18. Of course, the strip can also be used with two layers on top of each other, but the end result is very thick.
