accumulated investment scholarship funds to present their Class of 1967 Scholarship to their first recipient.
Betty Simpson Smith, wearing her 1963 freshman college sweatshirt, atended the Queens vs. Duke men’s basketball game at Cameron Stadium on Dec. 30, 2023. It was a Christmas present from her daughter, Britany, who graduated from Duke in 1991. At half time, a very scrappy Queens team was only down by 13 points. Unfortunately, the final score is in the photo background. While at the game, she saw Kay Crawford Greene ’68, Margaret Nelson ’17, Anna Baker ’27. Queens was on national television!
she was 17 and now her oldest granddaughter is going on 14!
Kay Crawford Greene joined several other alumni (Betty Simpson Smith ’67
and Margaret Nelson ’17) on the court aſter the Queens v. Dukes men’s basketball game on Dec. 30, 2023. Kay and Bety were so impressed that their small “Queens College” was on the big screen now with the likes of Duke.
Theckla Donsbach Sterrett is retired and loving it! All of her children and
grandchildren are in Charlote so they have a lot of time with all of them. Their daughter, Theckla, worked in New York City in advertising and took over her ad agency several years ago. Theckla’s son Todd works for Microsoſt. Tate will likely retire this year and Theckla hopes he does!

Iana Wolcott is still going strong at 77 years old! She sells the most beautiful antique furniture, porcelain and you name it. She takes yearly trips with classmates and still sees Narcissa (Cissa) Basten ’66 and her daughters for all large and fabulous catering events. It seems like yesterday that

C.H. Henson Holcombe and her PEACE AND LOVE UKESTRA were playing Christmas and
peace carols as a flash mob in the local shopping center in December. However, aſter clear enjoyment by the shoppers passing by, a security guard threatened them with arrest if they did not stop playing. Reluctantly they leſt, but imagined the headlines next day, “Senior Citizens Arrested for Ukulele Caroling”!

Bonnie McPhail Stabler and sister Claire McPhail have co-writen the children’s book, “Freddy the Fiddler Crab.” Bonnie illustrated Claire’s tale of a curious fiddler crab who finds himself caught in a plastic liter botle being washed away. He has quite an adventure as he finds himself in a strange place among new creatures who become his good friends. With their help, he finds a way to get back home to his family. “Freddy the Fiddler Crab” is available on Amazon, the Barnes and Noble website and more.
