A partnership between Atrium Health and Wexford Science & Technology, The Pearl fosters an open and inclusive environment where cuting-edge research, technology, and ideas converge. Here, the focus is on advancing health care solutions for all, creating a space where community thrives alongside groundbreaking advancements.


The Pearl’s first two buildings are slated to open in the spring of 2025. The Howard R. Levine Center for Education will house the Charlote campus of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where Vrochides also serves as a clinical professor of surgical sciences. Next door, IRCAD NA will anchor The Pearl’s Research Building 1, taking up approximately 300,000 square feet.


In addition to abdominal surgery, IRCAD NA’s training curriculum will include the latest techniques in

cardiovascular, neuro- and orthopedic surgeries, among others, which makes it unique among other IRCAD training facilities around the world. It will provide surgical training utilizing the latest technologies, including advanced laparoscopy, robotics, and image-guided procedures through the use of artificial intelligence and augmented surgical reality.


Vrochides’ appointment at IRCAD NA marks a significant turning point in his career. It is a testament to his unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others, not just as a surgeon, but also as a leader and advocate for innovative health care. With his passion, expertise, and newfound business skills, Vrochides is poised to lead a legion of surgeons dedicated to making a lasting impact in the fight against cancer.
