During the Royal Days of Service, the Queens community served 12 local organizations including Roof Above, Loaves and Fishes, Promising Pages, Classroom Central, Charlote Family Housing, and the Ronald McDonald House.

Promising Pages, Classroom Central, Charlote Family Housing, and the Ronald McDonald House.

The weeklong series of events culminated on Jan. 12, just prior to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with a Royal Day of Service in the Levine Center for Wellness and Recreation. There, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to assemble more than 700 sandwiches for Roof Above. In addition, 473 pounds of nonperishable food items were collected on campus and donated to Loaves and Fishes, a neighborhood food pantry in Charlote. In total, more than 715 service hours were completed by volunteers.

“Our moto is ‘Not to be served, but to serve,’” said Maria del Carmen Flores, vice president of student engagement and dean of students. “It’s woven into the very fabric of the Queens community. We strive to set an example of service, nurturing global citizens who leave the world a litle brighter than they found it.”

“The Royal Days of Service aren’t just about a single week; they inspire a ripple effect of service throughout the year. Even the smallest acts of kindness make a world of difference.”
