into blocks, bitts, spars, masts, bulwarks, davits, and so on. T e procedure is simple, drill two holes spaced the sheave diameter apart, use the same size chisel to make a simulated 8-sided sheave from the wood leſt between the two holes. Use the reamer to round-off the eight sides and you have a simulated sheave. When building blocks, I keep all the chisels, reamers, and spare drills involved in freezer bags sorted into six sizes.
I put everything needed (wood, jigs, everything) to build a particular size block into a numbered box. T us far I have been able to accommodate most rigging situations with six basic block sizes numbered 1 through 6. (Figure 2)
T ere is no secret, and no right or wrong! Just break, glue and ‘grind’ to fi t whatever the job requires. By this date, I probably have a hundred chisels (and always need more). If one breaks (as it will in drill sizes #70 to #80), just throw it away and make another. When using a chisel, I resharpen the edge about every 5 to 10 minutes for a second or two to keep it razor sharp for the fastest and most accurate cutting.
Having these tools really helps clean-up your models and makes them look signifi cantly sharper.
