from pooling. Notice that the wrap is stretched tight. By placing two-sided tape on the building board I was able to hold the Saran wrap under tension. T e sides of the Saran wrap were forced to follow the tumblehome of the hull. T e wrap protected the boat from contamination during the next steps. You may recall that I have used Kleenex to simulate canvas before. In this case, I placed two layers of Kleenex onto the building board and soaked them with a water and white aliphatic glue solution. T e trick is to avoid wrinkles. Keep the layers fl at with a little tension. Once soaked, liſt them off the building board and drape them over the Saran-wrapped boat. T is sounds easy but it is not. T en, with a broad solution-soaked brush, tease the Kleenex down and


around the tumblehome of the hull. Photos 386 and 387 show how it needs to look. It will never be perfect but the texture is remarkably similar to canvas. Next, choose the color you wish to use for the canvas. I chose a light cream, since canvas is never white. Once the paint had dried, I used small amounts of weathering powders to augment the patina of the canvas.


At this point I removed the dried and painted Kleenex and Saran wrap layer from the boat. T e Saran wrap had done its job of protecting the hull and I leſt it attached to the Kleenex. Many diff erent methods are used to hold down lifeboat covers. For this model,
