gray; therefore I used WA Blue on the model. Color chips were located on the Steel Navy site (www. steelnavy.com/images/chips/RNchipo1). A trip to the hobby shop found that Testor’s blue enamel was a good match. T e locations were masked and two

coats airbrushed onto the hull.

T e decals were custom made for me by CanMilAir, a company specializing in Canadian military subjects. T e decals for Chicoutimi came on two 8½ x 11 sheets, and can be viewed on their web site www. canmilair.com. T ey were applied aſt er several days waiting for the enamel paint to thoroughly cure, and, aſt er application, the entire ship was sprayed with Testor’s Dullcoat to seal them in. While the paint was curing I built the deck fi ttings, including splinter shields, various styles of vents and hatches, cleats and bollards, hawse rubbers, bull ring, windlass base, the lock box for the magazine fl ooding valves, and the vegetable and beef screen. (Figures 31, 32, 33 and 34) Most fi ttings were made up from styrene sheet and shapes, but I turned nails on my Taig lathe to make the vents. T e vegetable and beef screen is made from scale lumber and brass screen, fi nished with Vermont Maple wood stain and Tamiya transparent orange acrylic paint. T e fuel tank manholes are K&S #5095 oval brass tubes with styrene covers. I did take advantage of the many commercial fi ttings now on the market that either match corvette fi ttings exactly or require only minor modifi cation. T e cowl vents are items from Caldercraſt to which I added rotating mechanisms using rod and tube pieces. T e small details: nuts, bolts, hasps, hinges and wing nuts all came from

34. Quarterdeck fi ttings and hatches.
