NEWS ROUND-UP Montréal drives +11% ARINA growth in 2017

Aer Rianta International North America (ARINA) has reported year-on-year travel retail revenue growth of +11%. General Manager Jackie McDonagh

told TRBusiness in an exclusive interview [see page 50] that the uplift was ‘greatly driven’ by the contribution of ARINA’s stores at Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. In October, ARINA unveiled its upgraded

The Loop Duty Free outlet following an extensive refurbishment. This has been supported by capital

investment from Aéroports de Montréal totalling $500m in 2016/2017, with a focus on infrastructure development and an improved customer experience. “In 2017, we completely refurbished the

Montréal Transborder store, which services US destinations, with all-new wall-bays and floor-fixtures,” reported McDonagh. “We also added a few new concept sections to the liquor department with

L’amour du Vin a beautiful section reminiscent of a grand wine cellar.” ARINA’s expanded Montréal Trudeau

airport stores offer travellers to the US a newly extended range of cosmetics and fragrance brands, including Tom Ford and Tory Burch, as well as new retail furniture to house existing favourites such as Chanel, Dior, Armani, Lancôme and Clarins. As a result, the Montréal stores have

benefitted from significant growth in the past year, due in part to increased flight frequencies to Chinese destinations. “We are pleased to have been working in

partnership with Aer Rianta International for several years,” said Philippe Rainville, President and CEO, Aéroports de Montréal. “[They] share our commitment to the

customer experience by offering quality services, always listening to our passengers’ needs and promoting international and local Montréal brands. The Loop is a perfect

example of our very successful partnership.” Elsewhere, ARINA opened its new

seven-and-a-half year Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport concession in December. “Its first month exceeded expectations,”

said McDonagh. “Passengers are very happy with the expanded assortment.”
