DFASS, part of the TRG Duty Free joint-venture at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport Terminal D, will have been beaming with pride when the new state-of-the-art store opened last December. TRG Duty Free is an alliance between CBI Retail Ventures and DFASS, together with partners MDT Strategic Ventures and Charles Bush Consulting. Spanning 1,765sq m, the two-level facility is deemed by many to be the largest and most technologically advanced duty free store in the US. December was a major highlight for DFASS, but the company had plenty to be cheerful about in October when it opened 10 duty free shops in Colombia at El Dorado International Airport Terminal One in partnership with Dufry. As reported, DFASS and Dufry secured the 10-year contract in January 2017 covering around 3,200sq m of retail space.
Bogota openings Serving the capital of Bogota, El Dorado is the largest international
and luxury brands including Estée Lauder, Gucci, Chanel and Tom Ford among a plethora of others. When it was awarded the contract in 2015, DFASS was the concessionaire (at gates D14 and 27) as part of the Buckaroo Duty Free joint venture. Looking back at the tender process,
which yielded around six bids from the world’s top 25 duty free retailers, Dallas/Forth Worth Vice President Concessions Zenola Campbell tells TRBusiness: “Part of the criteria had to do with
shops are located in the airport’s international area, with four in the Main Pier and five in the new North Mall expanded space – plus a walk- through in the domestic area. Both companies are operating two duty free general travel retail stores across both areas with one 6,95sq m store in the Main Pier and another 510sq m store located in the North Mall. Each offer the traditional core duty free mix, plus a ‘special area’ dedicated to Colombian products including coffee and confectionery. The two partners are also
operating a further four specialised shops which include a 14sq m Bijoux Terner outlet in the Main Pier; a 73sq m Collection store selling sunglasses, watches and accessories in the North Mall; plus two multi-brand shops covering 682sq m (546sq m in the Main Pier and 1,36sq m in the North Mall). Openings in Dallas and Bogota
and new contracts in locations such as Charlotte Douglas International Airport (August) and the International Cruise Terminal in Progreso, Mexico (June) were perfect early tonics for Roberto Graziani, who was appointed DFASS Group Executive Vice Chairman in June. Speaking at the time of the Bogota
store openings, Graziani said: “We anticipate a unique retail experience for international and domestic passengers in Bogota for many years to come. I would like to thank our entire team and that of Dufry, whose partnership and commitment were instrumental in the realisation of this operation.” If Graziani and fellow DFASS
stakeholders have their way, there will be plenty more opportunities to welcome new openings, partnerships and contracts in the future. «
