www.scadfash.org DISCOVERY A WORLD OF ONE’S ONE

The Centre Pompidou Metz brings us the work of trailblazer Suzanne Valadon, the first woman painter admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Curator Chiara Parisi said that the title of the exhibition, Suzanne Valadon, A World of One’s Own, echoes Virginia

Woolf’s essay, A Room of One’s Own, in which the author questioned the scarcity of women in literature and called for intellectual freedom. Over 100 works in the exhibition reflect on the ‘personal’ space claimed by this great painter of modernity, which pushed far beyond interior walls to appropriate public spaces with her large outdoor nudes, a manner of conquering territory traditionally assigned to men.  Until September 11
