Trot off

In August, Paris says adieu to self-service rental e-scooters, or trottinettes. At the end of an unprecedented vote held in the spring, the result was in. While turnout was low, with only 103,084 Parisians casting their ballot, 89.03% said a loud and clear ‘non!’ to the self-service e-scooters which, although popular in other cities, never captured the hearts of Parisians due to a combination of random parking issues, regulation and safety concerns. Unlike self-service bicycles, which are parked in designated bike racks, e-scooters often end up blocking

pavements or being left in inconvenient locations, which can be frustrating for pedestrians and other users of the space. The ban does not apply to privately-owned electric scooters, as long as they meet certain requirements, including a maximum speed of 25 km/h, no riding on

pavements and only one rider per device, with the minimum age set to increase from 12 to 14. www.paris.fr

According to a recent study by experts CGA and Nielsen IQ, 28% of French people said they drink cocktails more often than they did a year ago, and 53% said they buy them almost every time they go out, an increase of 7% compared to 2021.
