TO CAREER PROGRESSION HOW VEKA’S APPROACH BUILT STRONG STAFF RETENTION
OPENING THE WINDOW
VEKA plc has established itself as more than a business; it’s a family. A sentiment that is reflected across the company’s 400 plus employees and reinforced by the multi-generational families who work at the Burnley-based company.
VEKA’s approach to nurturing talent and providing clear pathways for progression has supported its workforce to develop lifelong careers.
Investment in every person across the company is core to VEKA’s ethos. And the success of VEKA’s apprenticeship program is proof of the company’s commitment to employee development.
From HR to engineering, VEKA’s investment in its apprentices goes beyond the standard training, its approach has seen many employees progress throughout the organisation. In fact, many former apprentices are still employed by the company after 20 years, which demonstrates the value of businesses recognising and nurturing talent through ongoing learning opportunities.
Laura Kennaugh joined VEKA as a business administration apprentice in 2019 after beginning her apprenticeship at another company.

“From day one, I felt like I was part of a team that truly cares about its people.”
Laura’s career took a rapid trajectory which saw her promoted to HR Business Partner in February 2023. Laura has prospered in her role thanks to VEKA’s support and

“It’s very much the family feel and the support here that makes VEKA stand out,” she said.
Charlotte was fully supported and enabled in her career progression as she returned to an HR role and earned her CIPD qualifications, which further earned recognition of her potential.
She said: “I was offered a secondment last year for nine months to be able to develop my skills in operational leadership. The development opportunities that VEKA provide shows that they’re invested in me, as well as me being invested in them.”
