WELCOME SIGNS AHEAD
The challenges facing our visitor economy have been well documented. However, it is not all doom and gloom as our expert panel at Ribby Hall Village revealed as they shared their thoughts on Lancashire’s strengths and its future as a destination of choice
What gives you confidence about the county’s tourism, hospitality and leisure sector?
VH: We’ve just got so much to offer in Lancashire. It is an exciting place to be. We’re constantly innovating and looking at new ways to attract people here.
The Eden Project is launching in 2028/29 and that is going to bring half-a-million visitors into the county, many from overseas. It is going to
be transformational. We’ve also got the Tour de France coming next year and I don’t think people appreciate the magnitude of that event. It is the greatest free TV advert that we could ever wish for. It is watched by 3.5bn people around the world.
MR: We are seeing quite significant investment now. It is not just the Eden Project, just look at all the investment that places like the Winter
IN ASSOCIATION WITH:
Gardens have made. Tourism is a key part of our economy.
What makes the sector in Lancashire special is the people, they are some of the friendliest in the country. As well as those big things that are happening there are lot of fantastic little festivals. There’s lots going on.
