The number one business in Lancashire Business View’s new Hot 100 list of the county’s most profitable SMEs has announced a £2m investment in its manufacturing capabilities.


VetPlus, part of the Tangerine Group, which occupies top spot in this year’s list, says the investment in its Lytham facility will “revolutionise” the vet medicine manufacturer’s production capabilities.


The work will include a £1m state-of-the-art liquids mixing facility, representing the largest single project in the company’s history.


The company was founded in 1995 by Tangerine Group chairman David Haythornthwaite. He said: “Our commitment to innovation and excellence drives every decision we make.


“This significant investment forms part of our ambitious growth plans as we continue to expand both our product development capabilities and


our international distribution network.


“It not only underscores our dedication to developing world-class products, but also demonstrates our unwavering commitment to providing our customers with unparalleled quality and reliability.”


Joe Pierce, head of engineering at VetPlus, added: “This landmark investment will revolutionise our already industry-leading facility even further, allowing us to continue setting the bar for product innovation and development.”


In recent years VetPlus has expanded overseas with new distributors in South America and a new business unit manager in Lagos, Nigeria. The company also has a regional support operation in Buenos Aires, Argentina.


A new entry in the Hot 100, Tangerine Group reported over £7m profits on £33m revenues while employing a workforce of more than 180.

Lancashire has “significant potential” as a powerhouse for growth, according to a major new report.


The ‘State of Growth in Lancashire’ report provides a comprehensive outlook on business growth potential in the county over the next year.


According to its authors, 15 per cent of Lancashire businesses are forecast to grow by more than 20 per cent in the next year.


That is significantly higher than the UK average of 13.1 per cent, according to the findings by national business growth specialist The Growth Company.


Its figures reveal that more than 75,000 businesses are active in Lancashire with 47 per cent forecast to grow in the next year and 11,467 to grow by 20 per cent.


The report also highlights variation in growth potential by sector as well as location.


While, in Lancashire, the highest number of businesses with high growth potential can be found in the professional, scientific and technical sectors, the county scores higher


than average in UK’s top three sectors: manufacturing, agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as construction.


Report author Nathan Shoesmith said: “The data in this report looks at what is driving growth potential in Lancashire, as well as where there may be barriers or risks to growth being achieved.


“In changing times, being able to find growth potential is more important than ever and the analysis provided is designed to facilitate business support interventions in Lancashire’s local economies.”

“It also gives further insight into the habits of scaleup businesses in Lancashire.
