James Brearley & Sons is an FCA authorised and regulated investment management and share-dealing service which has been operating for more than 100 years. The company currently has £282m funds under management and £3.32bn funds under administration. Throughout the year, it was able to significantly increase its profitability, with pre-tax profits increasing by 90 per cent to £3.4m.
Premier Steel is an independent stainless steel stockholder sourcing items from the UK and around the world. The company provides blanking, guillotine, bar sawing, polishing and plasma and laser cutting services, as well as operating its own fleet which delivers products to customers across the country.

During the year Holgates opened its ninth and tenth sites after acquiring and refurbishing Marsh House at Morecambe Bay and taking over Beetham Holiday Park in Cumbria.

Skiddle was co-founded as an online what’s on guide in 2001 by music fans and UCLan students Ben Sebborn and Rich Dyer. Five years later, the website expanded to include ticket sales, and it has since sold more than 17 million tickets and currently serves four million users. Following the pandemic, Skiddle launched bursaries to help promoters and venues to reopen and it has raised more than £200,000 for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support.

Slingco designs, manufactures, supplies and installs cables and overhead lines for the oil and gas, transmission and utility markets. The company also produces the Cablenet platform system used in theatres, opera houses, studios and schools. Resurgent oil prices and the launch of new products helped boost worldwide sales: domestic revenues increased by 67 per cent and sales in the USA increased by 60 per cent, contributing to £31m in total sales and a 154 per cent increase in pre-tax profits. Across the year, the company headcount increased from 93 to 115 in a bid to spark further growth with a particular focus on Europe and the rest of the world.
Perch Group, Blackpool
The Perch group of companies specialises in various aspects of debt. Perch Capital acquires typically non-performing loans from UK companies, ACI is an FCA-regulated debt collector, TM Legal Services litigates on behalf of clients to enforce debt collection and FieldConnect provides 150 field agents who can carry out tasks such as document signing and property reports. Perch increased revenues from £14m to £23.7m by acquiring new loan portfolios which also served to diversify its interests.
