R&J is a second-generation family business which has been supplying products to the building trade for nearly 50 years. The company operates a three-acre site in Blackburn with a fleet of vehicles facilitating nationwide deliveries.
Founded in 1988, Aqua Fabrications supplies the rail industry with a comprehensive range of drainage and cable management systems, developing many products in partnership with Network Rail. The Aqua group also includes Aqua Geocomposites, which manufactures the geomembranes and geotextiles for integrated drainage systems, and Aqua S&TS, which supplies plastic products for the industrial, agricultural and civil engineering industries.

Compass launched in 2009 as a third-party broker of oils, alternative fuels and lubricants, before investing in its own inventory and fleet of vehicles and becoming a distributor in its own right. It serves a nationwide customer base with 98 per cent of orders delivered within 24 hours. During the year, the company completed its investment in its depot, doubling its storage capacity to 400,000 litres and paving the way for future growth.

Cherrytree initially began life in 1984 producing local favourites such as Chorley cakes and parkin. Growth accelerated in recent years with the company expanding its product range, targeting national retailers, expanding its production facilities and significantly increasing its workforce. Sales in the last year alone increased by a third, up to £22.4m, with more investments in the pipeline set to act as a catalyst for further growth to come.
