The company, whose MD is Andrew Foster, has been long known for its significant investment in R&D and committed £2.5m to developing new products this year.

Mears, launched as a brush manufacturer and hardware merchant in 1802, is a sixth- generation family business which dabbled in various trades before making floor coverings its sole focus in 1984. Today it sells carpets, vinyls, laminates, wooden floors and rugs to residential customers and commercial organisations including housebuilders, factories, offices, universities, hotels, hospitals and government departments.

Established for more than half a century, Leach is a structural steelwork and cladding specialist. The company works on behalf of principal contractors on projects spanning industries such as commercial, education, health, leisure, residential and retail, and ranging from 50 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes of steelwork. Buildings worked on in the local area include Blackburn Youth Zone, Blackpool Council offices and Booths’ retail stores in Garstang and Lytham.

Mac Civils is a civil engineering contracting company which specialises in utility infrastructure. The company, established in 2010, works for both private and public sectors organisations, including some of the county’s largest network operators. Over the year, the company improved revenues by 11 per cent, up to £11.5m.

Family-owned retailer Roccia was established in 1994 as Tile Mart. At more than 44,000 sq ft, it operates the largest independent tile, bath and kitchen showroom in the country. The Patel family also runs a foundation which supports local community projects, national charities and international appeals.
