GROWING OUR OWN TALENTED TEAM

The Pierce Group is a North West based business advisory and accountancy group with a trusted focus on the success of its clients and employees.

Our core services help clients meet day-to- day requirements whilst our added solutions assist with strategic business decisions.

To achieve the success we strive for, we are committed to providing career opportunities for outstanding candidates and advocate for apprenticeships. Currently we have 15 employees developing their expertise via a wide range of professional qualifications across all departments.

Historically, there has been limited opportunity to attain a professional qualification via the apprenticeship route, but this trend has changed over recent years with the introduction of higher-level apprenticeships, becoming a valuable alternative to university.

HR director Lisa Kennery said: “As a firm we pride ourselves on collaborating with schools/colleges to educate the next

generation of workers on roles within the professional sector and the skills now required which is a changing landscape due to technology and mindsets.”

We are a pledge partner with Lancashire Skills Pledge, an organisation providing businesses with information about Lancashire’s key skills and training initiatives, committing to seven of the eight pledges to upskill, recruit, and inspire the younger generation.

We have two enterprise advisors, Lisa Kennery and Hazel Johnson, who support the careers lead at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Blackburn with practical and strategic advice.

Coinciding with the above, we work with Northwest Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (NWAAN) cementing our dedication to apprenticeships. Layton Smalley, a successful apprentice at Pierce, is proud to be the diversity and inclusion board lead dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Georgia Culver recently completed the ACA qualification alongside a Level 7 apprenticeship and said: “I found the apprenticeship great for developing my knowledge and pathway to ease my way into the accounting profession.

Pierce is very understanding and well experienced to aid in an apprenticeship. Finding a balance between working full time and studying part-time was manageable and I felt both capable and confident I was heading in the right direction.”

We are experiencing an exceptional period of growth and as a result, are offering tremendous opportunities for early careers. We endeavour to push our employees to achieve their ambitions. Please contact us if you are considering an apprenticeship at Pierce.

COLLEGE BRINGS LEARNERS AND EMPLOYERS TOGETHER

To ensure our learners become the workforce of the future, Preston College continues to take significant strides in building connections with employers across Lancashire.

Actively embracing apprenticeships and industry placements as a key foundation of our educational approach, our business partnerships not only provide learners with hands-on, real-life experience, but also address the specific needs of industries within the region and any skills gaps there may be.

Our college works with some of the region’s most reputable organisations, developing a curriculum which ensures that we equip our learners with the skills needed to be industry-ready and to make a substantial impact upon qualifying.

To help this strategic approach, we are about to launch our sector advisory groups. These will be developed at sector level and will enable employers, key stakeholders and college staff to meet and discuss current and future skills needs, whilst ensuring that

our curriculum is both relevant and impactful in supporting workforce development and a thriving local economy. What’s more, our brand new business school ensures that our learners thrive, whilst giving businesses in the area the opportunity to benefit from upskilling, through bespoke, tailor-made courses to suit them and their workforce.

This school will equip our learners with the skills, knowledge and real-life experiences that are necessary to thrive in modern business.

Through these initiatives, and more, Preston College is not only shaping a workforce that meets the unique needs of Lancashire’s industries, but is cultivating a system where education and employment seamlessly connect; creating a win-win scenario for both our learners and employers alike.

CONSTRUCTION SKILLS AWARD WIN

Preston College has been recognised for its exceptional work with employers under the Central Lancashire Construction Skills Hub initiative.

The only Lancashire-based college to be announced as a finalist in this year’s AoC Beacon Awards, Preston College is now the proud winner of a 2023 Beacon Award.

Simon Nixon, principal and chief executive of Preston College, says: “It is extremely rewarding to be recognised for the work, dedication and commitment that our college team continues to demonstrate for the good of our community, our learners, and our partner employers.

“This award reflects excellent stakeholder collaboration, as well as the strong contribution that the college makes in meeting local skills needs.”
