DIGITAL SKILLS GAP WITH APPRENTICESHIPS
There is a significant demand for digital skills today. In a recent survey, Forbes reported that 93 per cent of businesses say there is a definite digital skills gap.
“Training and development issues are cited as an issue, with 41 per cent of businesses pointing to a lack of training opportunities. Similarly, over a third (37 per cent) believe the gap also stems from the absence of relevant educational programmes,” says Forbes in its IT Skills Gap Report 2023
This presents a significant challenge for the education sector, as it battles with industry to find the digital skills talent to deliver the cutting edge digital skills apprenticeships required.
Add this to the ever-evolving digital world and standards are often falling well short of employers’ requirements.
One award-winning digital agency believes they have the solution for our Lancashire apprenticeship providers.
+24 has launched an academy which has been specifically designed to support apprenticeship providers in delivering outstanding digital skills. They have worked to produce full courses, meeting all the occupational standards and industry requirements, for colleges and training providers to deliver a hybrid solution of online and in-person learning to ensure that digital apprenticeships can match the needs of today’s workforce.
Dave Walker, managing director, said: “The digital skills gap in the UK is one of the biggest barriers to growth for our business and many like ours. I firmly believe it’s up to industry to support the education sector to develop the next generation of digitally talented individuals.”
Maria Howarth from Blackburn College, one of +24 Academy’s innovative early adopters, said: “This new hybrid approach is allowing us to deliver the latest digital skills, utilising our industry partners, to

our apprentices in a modern and effective way.” +24 Academy is already delivering a range of digital apprenticeships through its delivery partners, including the brand new Multi-Channel Marketer, and they hope to be supporting over 200 students in 2024.
It’s a new way of thinking about delivering apprenticeships at a time when innovation is needed to solve the ever-growing digital skills gap challenge.
“Strong relationships between providers and employers have the potential to transform careers, realise untapped talent, and make sure we have a workforce fit for the future,” said the Department for Education in 2021.
+24 Academy is sister company of +24, an award-winning digital agency providing marketing, software and technology solutions to ambitious businesses across the UK. To find out more about the Academy, contact Joanne on 03333 447124 or visit the website
