40 BURNLEY
Philip Jones Director of new services, The Calico Group
Who we are
The Calico Group comprises innovative charities and businesses working together to make a real difference to people’s lives across the North West, by working with customers to close the equality gap and to show others how we create a fairer society.
Employing more than 1,000 people, Calico’s companies have a track record of providing a complete community service in housing, healthcare, support, employability, and construction.
What we’ve achieved
We have committed to investing £25m in our housing stock across Burnley over the next five years, and have been recognised for Connected Futures – a project tackling barriers that prevent younger people from accessing the employment market.
We champion integrated service offers where housing, health and wellbeing can improve the lives and aspirations of people living in our communities, with a £17m flagship extra care development set to open in Burnley in 2024.
Why we love Burnley
Calico was formed in Burnley 23 years ago and our commitment to the town has always been a cornerstone of our approach to improving the lives of customers.
What makes Burnley special are the people and partnerships that show a real community-minded approach – Burnley Together being a great example of this.
calico.org.uk Who we are
DRN is a director-led practice, specialising in a broad range of services including commercial property, corporate law, employment law, conveyancing, private criminal defence, wills and probate and family law.
Our team of specialist lawyers excels in providing exceptional legal advice and delivering unparalleled care and attention to our clients.
What we’ve achieved
As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2024, we are immensely proud of our century of delivering excellent legal services. Nurturing new talent and expertise is key to our progress, and with a fifth trainee solicitor due to join us this year, we are looking forward to celebrating both our past successes, our commitment to Best Practice and our continued future growth.
Why we love Burnley
There is a unique charm to the community here that is truly special.
There is ambition and an appetite for doing good business coupled with a sense of loyalty that I have not experienced in other towns and cities.
Despite having moved away for study and practice in my younger years, the community spirit and family ethos was a huge factor for me in choosing to return.

Who we are
Door4 is a performance marketing agency. We work with leading home & garden and automotive brands on brand and performance campaigns.
From paid search and social, to search engine optimisation and Google Shopping – we get traffic to websites, and we work hard to turn it into revenue. We have a long heritage in user experience, meaning we build and optimise websites so that they’re best in class.
What we’ve achieved
We’ve enjoyed continuous growth, with stability over the years despite the odd setback, as per all businesses. We’re proud to have transitioned the business from a ‘spiky’ project-led business into one entirely supported by fixed, predictable contract work.
We have meaningful, strategic relationships with our clients – the importance of that can’t be overstated – leading to 50 per cent growth over the last four years.
Why we love Burnley
I’m a Burnley lad through and through. Whilst we have opened an office in Manchester to allow us to recruit talent from the city, we still keep Burnley as our headquarters. As I write this, all of our team are here in BB11.
Uniquely, the business community and council in Burnley have collaborated for years – meaning that Burnley is now an attractive and lucrative place to be an agency.
door4.com Who we are
Established in 1928 we are one of the longest estate agency brands in east Lancashire providing sales and lettings services for residential and commercial customers.
Many things have changed since we sold our first home, but two elements have remained throughout, customer service and having the right team in place are key to ensuring we deliver an exceptionally high level of service.
We consider ourselves part of the community and our knowledge of the area is second to none.
What we’ve achieved
We are a three-time winner of the Relocation Network Agent of the Year Award for the North West.
We recently moved into new premises in the heart of Burnley – The Old Red Lion, which has been refurbished throughout.
We remain committed to supporting our local community, and last year Pendleside Hospice granted our director Ian Bythell with a special recognition award for his continued fundraising activities.
Why we love Burnley
Burnley was voted the friendliest town in Britain with good reason. But we also mean business. From world-renowned cutting-edge brands and solid investment opportunities to affordable living and housing and spectacular countryside to explore, we truly believe we have it all in Burnley.
