Petroc Prospectus | T-LEVELS WHAT ARE T-LEVELS?
T-levels are brand new, Level 3, two-year qualifications that give you the chance to learn what a career is like while you study. T-levels deliver a framework of knowledge, skills, behaviours, understanding, expertise and experience across a range of subjects.
ARE T-LEVELS RIGHT FOR ME?
T-levels suit learners who want a more applied, employer-led study programme. They are an ideal course if you have finished your GCSEs and want the knowledge and experience to go into employment, an apprenticeship or higher education.
Your T-level will be worth UCAS points. A T-level Distinction* is equivalent to 3 A-levels at A* - and will be recognised by universities for those that want to continue studying.
From September 2020, you can study the following T-level subjects:
• CONSTRUCTION: DESIGN, SURVEYING AND PLANNING • DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT • EDUCATION • HEALTH AND SCIENCE
WHAT CAN I EXPECT? INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS
Jake Stickley, a former Level 2 and Level 3 Engineering student, completed an industry placement with Eaton Aerospace and has since been offered an Apprenticeship with them.
“I thought doing an industry placement would be the perfect way to get a real insight into the engineering industry. It has increased my confidence and I’m now on a career path which I love.”
You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom or in practical workshops and 20% of your time on an industry placement.
Your industry placement will be a 45-day experience with a local business which will give you the opportunity to develop your practical and technical skills needed to progress onto employment, an apprenticeship, or higher education. You can expect to be treated like a member of staff, experience a full induction and will be assigned a supervisor or mentor for the duration of your placement. This can be undertaken as a block (over college holidays for example) or as individual days to fit around your college timetable.
Completing an industry placement can increase your confidence, allow you to stand out from your peers and develop industry-specific skills.
