Petroc Prospectus | A-LEVELS

WHAT ARE A-LEVELS? A-levels are Level 3 subjects which are taken over two years.

ARE A-LEVELS RIGHT FOR ME?

A-levels are suitable for anyone who enjoys academic study and are an ideal route to university. Even if you aren’t sure what you want to do after college, A-levels will enable you to continue your studies whilst also keeping your career options open.

We are extremely proud of our students who, last year, for the eighth consecutive year, achieved an overall pass rate of over 99% - many of whom went on to Russell Group universities, as well as higher apprenticeships or employment with world-class businesses.

When you plan your programme, it is important that you choose subjects that you enjoy as well as those which will help you on your career path. Our expert career specialist can provide you with advice as to the appropriate combination of subjects required to access various careers.

Some universities can be specific about required A-level combinations and grades, so it is advisable to speak to our specialist staff in our Advice & Guidance Centre.

In order to study A-levels, you will need to hold a minimum of GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 alongside three other GCSEs at grade 4 or above. You will be expected to achieve your predicted grades, and some A-level subjects will require higher grades which will be discussed in detail once you have applied.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

A-levels integrate real-world experiences with work-related learning opportunities, mentoring and employability workshops.

We offer a supportive environment with some fantastic enrichment opportunities, such as our Aspire programmes, to prepare you for university and the career of your choice. In addition to college study, you will also take part in a wide variety of exciting educational trips, both in the UK and abroad.

Take a look at our courses on the following pages and find out more on our website. MID DEVON

Petroc offers a range of STEM-related A-level subjects to students at our Mid Devon campus. The curriculum has been designed with local employers, to ensure your skills have a direct link to working contexts as well as supporting your progression to graduate studies, or national and local employment opportunities.

The courses will provide progression opportunities in a range of sectors such as Laboratory Science, Manufacturing, Engineering and IT. You can either choose three A-levels from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, or two A-levels plus one BTEC in IT, Engineering or Science. Contact us if you want to talk through your options.

Why not also get involved in our Aspire programmes! See page 13 for more details.
