2017 Attendance Report Te percentage change from 2016 to 2017.

Historic Landmarks, Museums, and Zoo and Animal Attractions enjoyed the greatest rate of visitation from our respondents last year, topping the 16 attraction types that we study. Tis marks the second year in a row in which Sightseeing Tours have experienced, albeit minimal, growth in their attendance. Unfortunately 2017 also marked the second year of steady decreases in attendance at Zoos and Animal Attractions, FECs, Aquariums, Large-Format Screen Teaters, Water Parks; and most drastically, Teaters (down 4% in 2016 and another 7% in 2017).

In a recent white paper by White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group, “Te Evolution of Socialization,” the firm hypothesizes that decreasing attraction attendance could be attributed to the fact that “going out to be entertained and have fun is no longer as necessary an activity in order to socialize with friends and family.” As Digital Social Connectedness continues to grow, people may be more inclined to socialize electronically, rather than in person.
