Riad Sakkan MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
Riad Sakkan combines the authenticity of a classic riad with the cosy sophistication of a boutique hotel. The hotel is located the in Dar El Bacha area of Marrakech, a short walk from Jemaa el Fna square and the impressive Koutoubia Mosque. Traditionally the district where the pashas held court, today the area has been renovated and pedestrianised, and visitors will find hip restaurants, quaint terraces, boutiques and art galleries. Inspired by its founder’s love of luxury travel,
art and gastronomy, Riad Sakkan opened in 2019. The building, formally two palaces, was renovated to preserve the traditional architecture while incorporating contemporary features. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into the first
of two courtyards, where they’ll find a spacious swimming pool and lush greenery descending from the rooftop along elegant arched galleries. The second courtyard features the hotel’s renowned extra-large garden lounge featuring a fountain shaded by palm tress, giant bamboo and banana trees. The jungle-like garden is home to turtles and birds, too.
Riad Sakkan has 12 rooms. From the more
modestly sized rooms to the lavish master suite, each has luxury features. While all 12 rooms open onto one of the courtyards, each boasts its own unique character, with art and furniture from the owner’s own collections. Guests can expect high- quality beds and house-brand care products, which are also used in the in-house hammam as well as during massages. The dynamic roof terrace is a real highlight of
this riad. With a restaurant, bar and sun deck, as well as numerous spots to enjoy the view of the red city and Atlas mountains, guests can spend hours relaxing there. Chef Saïd and his team of five are trained in
European bistro cuisine, but specialise in classic local cuisine, too. Menu highlights include daily fresh oysters, Atlantic tuna tartare, slow-cooked leg of lamb, classic tagines and truffle risotto. The pastry chef’s desserts are equally tempting. The experienced bartenders, soft chatter of relaxed guests and music that follows the rhythm of the day complete the experience.
DON’T MISS Set off on a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Atlas Mountains and the Agafay desert
