Heure Bleue Palais ESSAOUIRA, MOROCCO
Steeped in history, the Heure Bleue Palais in Essaouira has retained the cachet of a traditional Moroccan mansion, while offering all the modern comforts of a large hotel. Built at the end of the 18th century on the ruins of an ancient fondouk (a hostel for travelling traders), the property was initially the sumptuous residence of the pasha Caïd Mbark Saidi. Later acquired by a wealthy merchant, it then served as an orphanage until the 1960s, before being abandoned. Years later, plans were made to restore the residence to its former glory. Heure Bleue Palais opened its doors in June 2004 after four years of renovation and reconstruction, with an exciting new identity as a luxury hotel. Located at the heart of ancient Mogador in
the Medina of Essaouira (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the distinctive Heure Bleue Palais is synonymous with privacy and comfort. There are 33 non-smoking rooms and suites available in this historic home, where the art of Moroccan hospitality is demonstrated at its very best. The living rooms, bedrooms, suites and lounges all
converge on the stunning patio at the heart of the riad. An array of shops, restaurants and many places of cultural significance are just a short stroll away. As a member of the prestigious Relais &
Châteaux association of individually owned and operated luxury hotels, Heure Bleue Palais is a proud partner of many of the major cultural, musical and sports events that are held throughout the year. The Heure Bleue Palais team is also on hand to organise guests’ special occasions or events. Cooking in Essaouira means paying tribute to
the ocean and the province, and the restaurant at Heure Bleue Palais is excited to present an array of exquisite dishes showcasing the best local produce — including argan oil, olives, mountain honey, goat cheese, sardines, kid meat, lamb, bull, prickly pears and pomegranates. For the hotel’s chef, cooking is sharing, and Heure Bleue Palais is delighted to share with guests the pleasure of flavours and preparations from rich culinary traditions inherited with pride.
