Perched on a granite rock 148ft above the roofs of the mountain resort of Zermatt, The OMNIA is overshadowed only by the iconic Matterhorn that towers majestically above it. Guests arrive from the village via an underground tunnel before entering an elevator that rises up through the rock to reach the hotel’s lobby — this is located a lofty 5,410ft above sea level. A member of Design Hotels, the property is a
cool and contemporary take on the traditional mountain lodge. Sunlight floods in through supersized glass windows, logs burn in the stone fireplace, and leather couches and custom-made wooden furniture echo the Alpine surroundings. For a better view of the Matterhorn’s jutting peaks, guests can head outdoors and linger over coffee on the south-facing sundeck. All the hotel’s 30 rooms — including 12 elegant
suites — open out onto balconies offering breath- taking views of the snow-dusted peaks. The two most luxurious suites come with a telescope, sauna, living room and fireplace.

Accommodation This hotel is made up of 30 rooms, including 12 suites, while guests also have access to a library and a restaurant with fireplaces, a lounge bar, a boardroom, a cavern and two sun decks high above the roofs of Zermatt — with the Matterhorn practically next door. Rooms have no numbers, and the rooms and
suites couldn’t be more diverse. They vary in their layout and sizes, ranging from the Queen Size room to the Double Deluxe rooms, the Suites, the Tower Suites and, finally, the OMNIA Suite. All rooms and suites include private balconies,
and most rooms enjoy a unique panoramic view of the surrounding peaks, including the Rothorn, Stockhorn, Gornergrat, Monte Rosa and, last but not least, the Matterhorn. Some of the amenities offered include fireplaces, elegant baths with bay windows, Jacuzzis and even saunas. All rooms and suites include a minibar, LCD screen TV, a sound system, safe and telephone. DVD players, movies and music are available upon request.
Cuisine An elaborate breakfast buffet awaits hotel guests in the OMNIA’s spacious restaurant, which has seating for 60. Later in the day, and for dinner, the restaurant is open to outside guests as well as guests of the hotel. The OMNIA experience is complemented by modern, uncomplicated cuisine. Head chef Tony Rudolph places quality above all else. Clear, pure flavours distinguish his seasonal dishes, which can be enjoyed on the sun terrace, in the lobby, in the boardroom, or in the guests’ own rooms, of course.
The team One of the property’s biggest assets is its team of exceptionally friendly and professional staff. They are the ambassadors of the hotel, foregrounding the guest experience in everything they do and embodying the core principles of service and excellence at the heart of The Omnia. A key component of this team is award-winning managing director Christian Eckert. He joined the
team in 2015, initially as deputy director, before taking over as managing director in 2017. He is a lynchpin in the operations of the hotel, overseeing the entire management team. He is always mindful of centering guest’s needs, while performing vital operational tasks such as overseeing the budget and monitoring quality standards. Indeed, he was recently recognised by the prestigious HotellerieSuisse (Swiss Hotel Association) as the Hotelier of the Year 2023, adding to the long list of accolades the hotel has won.
Wellness The wellness centre offers pure relaxation. It is equipped with a modern indoor/outdoor pool, enabling swimmers to dive under a glass partition and float in the fresh air. Weary muscles can be blasted under the massage jets in the open-air heated pool, before being soothed in the outdoor whirlpool with stunning views of the Matterhorn. There’s also a Finnish and bio sauna, as well as a botanical scented steam room to gelp relieve sore limbs after a day of intensive day hiking or biking.
Zermatt Zermatt lies at the foot of the Matterhorn and is surrounded by no less than 38 peaks taller than 13,100ft. The resort town lies in southwestern Switzerland, in the German-speaking portion of Canton Valais. This traditional winter sports resort, with its international ambience, has always been an automobile-free zone — a place where visitors get around by foot, by horse-drawn sleigh or by electric car. Thanks to guaranteed snowfall, the winter
season in Zermatt begins in mid- November and continues through the beginning of May. Nearly 200 miles of prepared runs can be reached from three starting points through a network of 70 tramways, chair lifts and ski lifts. In the summer, Zermatt’s adventure and themed
hiking trails, with their panoramic views, the new Swiss Nordic Park for Nordic walkers and a glacier garden provide plenty of opportunities for exercise. Golfers will enjoy the Golf Club Matterhorn’s courses, perched in the valleys between the villages of Randa and Täsch.
