L
ast year was certainly a chal- lenging one for all of us. Both during and after lockdown, Dr
Katerina received lots of messages from her patients about several skin conditions they were facing, as well as new requests regarding procedures that would improve their face and body shape. Here are the key treatments she’ll be focusing on in 2021, based on the latest insights and needs of her patients.
Maskne Dr Katerina is keen to emphasise that this is a real term and a real condi- tion that has come about from people wearing masks in public for longer periods of time. It’s caused by the fact that the lower part of the face is constantly covered;
therefore heat,
sweat and oils are trapped, which leads to clogged pores and breakouts. Dr Katerina has created a plan to treat maskne, which includes a combi- nation of medical-grade
(non-oily)
skincare products as well as multiple treatments to improve skin texture, acne scars, acne and pigmentation.
Dermapen & microneedling Dermapen works by piercing tiny needles into the treated skin area, which results in a collagen boost by renewing the skin cells through the body’s healing process. As the skin heals, it increases skin collagen and elastin by plumping the area and
reducing scars and pigmentation. It leaves your skin with a smooth and healthy texture that can last for weeks.
PRP Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that makes use of the patient’s own blood. It’s a revolutionary repair system that places growth factors in the exact location where patients want their skin repaired.
Chemical peels Chemical peels are liquids brushed on to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells. T e aim of this cosmetic procedure is to improve the appearance of the facial skin.
The ‘Zoom face’ effect Looking at ourselves on video screens has made us feel more self-conscious in how we look. Dr Katerina was surprised when
she started receiving a lot of enquiries during lockdown about procedures that can treat the double chin and saggy areas on the face. T is is clearly due to the fact that people started having online meetings at work via video apps and started looking at themselves on their mobile or laptop screens. Interestingly enough research by FOREO found that 91% of us admit to looking at ourselves more
than others on video calls. Usually our appearance on the screen can be unfl attering, not necessarily due to the actual face shape, but due to bad light- ning or the wrong angle. Dr Katerina’s goal when treating her patients is to embrace their natural beauty and to create a bespoke treatment tailored to the needs of each patient and their face shape. Face optimisation is all about placement and tweakments and the doctor is an expert at making her patients feel confi dent but also comfortable in their own skin.
Injectables Subtle changes to certain areas of the face, such as the jawline or cheek- bones can transform the face shape completely. Placement is key and derma fi llers are used to contour and lift the face with great results, which can last from one to two years.
PDO thread lift A PDO thread lift is a safe method to prevent the appearance of ageing skin. It’s performed in areas that can get particularly saggy with time: the cheeks, neck area, jawline or under the chin. It can be performed alone or in combination with fi llers for maximum results. T e results vary depending on the threads being used lasting up to a year.
Vaser lipo Vaser liposuction can be used to remove fat for both men and women who want to achieve a more refi ned shape using a less invasive surgical procedure. Vaser lipo can be used to treat large areas of unwanted fat or smaller very specifi c areas to fi nely sculpt (double chin, breasts, stomach, upper back, banana roll, knees, neck, bra fat, waist, inner thigh, calves, and arms). All treat- ments are tailored to the individual and personal experiences and results may vary. Dr Katerina always recom- mends a one-to-one consultation to discuss the treatment options.
