18 New Year, New You Healthy food & drink Continued from page 17 Madeleine’s health and wellness

journey started when she moved to Sydney, Australia, for university. After suffering from IBS, she went to see a dietician, who recommended she tried a whole-food diet after living off ‘low-fat’ and ‘low-calorie’ meals. “I ended up eating in this health cafe so much they gave me a job,” she laughs. It was her time in Australia that inspired her bestselling cookbook, Get the Glow. “People would say, you look really

healthy, you’re glowing. And I thought that was such a lovely word. I’m a firm believer that when look after your insides, you’ll shine on the outside,” she explains. “My food philosophy certainly changes and evolves as time goes on, but I think I’ve always had a consistency of recipes that are really easy to make. I’m not a chef, I cook from home. I like ease and simplicity, and ultimately, I want to empower people to cook.”
