Working as a Scientist Making and Recording Observations
Modelling the Earth, Sun and Moon Develop a model of the Earth, Sun and Moon using a light bulb, a small globe and a golf ball and use the model to carry out the investigations that follow. During the investigations make and record observations that would explain different occurrences that happen on Earth, such as the seasons.

Model of the Moon, Earth and Sun
When constructing your model, remember: zz
zz zz z z
The Earth orbits the Sun in an anticlockwise direction. The Moon orbits the Earth in an anticlockwise direction. The Earth, Sun and Moon all rotate on their own axes.
The Earth is tilted on its axis by approximately 23.5°. (Hint: the Earth rotates on its own axis in an anticlockwise direction.)
Night and Day
Use your model to explain night and day. Use Ireland as the point from where observations are recorded.
1 Copy and complete the following table. Question
Observation
Which direction does the Sun appear from?
In which direction does the Sun set?
If it is daytime in Ireland, name one country where it is night-time
