Carbon dioxide does not support combustion. In fact, it is very good at putting out fires. For this reason, it is often used in fire extinguishers.

Pouring gases
Carry out an investigation to show that carbon dioxide gas can be poured from a gas jar and oxygen gas cannot.

Marble chips and hydrochloric acid
Plan, design, carry out and write up an investigation to show the link between surface area and the volume of carbon dioxide gas produced in the reaction between hydrochloric acid and different-sized marble chips (calcium carbonate).
1. What factors will you change and what factors will you keep the same in this investigation? 2. How will you make sure that this is a fair test? 3. What will your results table look like? 4. What type of graph will you use to display your results? 5. What safety precautions will you need to take?
