Course number: 03 EYFS KS1 KS2 Course overview


Vocabulary breadth and depth are two of the most important factors in helping pupils to understand what they read and to express themselves as mature, sophisticated learners. The challenge is immense: pupils need to learn and become fl uent in at least 570 word families during their time in formal education.


This exciting new course from Chris will help you to infuse rich vocabulary from EYFS to KS2 into all areas of the curriculum. It will provide strategies for teaching vocabulary in reading activities, spoken and written communications.


Learning outcomes


✓ Understand the reasons that vocabulary needs to be explicitly taught through robust instruction.


✓ Explore how using daily routines can help pupils reach sustained mastery of sophisticated vocabulary.


✓ Look at the tiers of vocabulary and the importance of mature, academic language.


✓ Refl ect on the importance of etymology and morphology even with the youngest pupils in your school.
