Early Years Understanding Transitions

Course number: 08 EYFS Course overview
Incorporating a mix of theory and personal understanding, this course explores the experience of transitions from a child’s perspective. It will look at both horizontal (daily experience of change) and vertical transitions (milestones towards school and beyond) through the lens of attachment theory and relationships.
Practical ideas for supporting children through transitions will be provided. There will also be opportunities to assess current practice with a view to improving the quality of provision and reducing the negative impacts of change on young children.
Learning outcomes
✓ Understand what is meant by transitions in the early years.
✓ Explore the impact of change on young children’s development, learning and well-being.
✓ Look at the importance of supporting change through attachment and resilience, and the role of the key person.
✓ Discover the practicalities of smooth transitions from early years through to school.
