ARCHITECTURE

Overall plant view.

Gymnasium views – treatment spaces among the existing trees.

The second one, which will serve IUs 4-6 and is located in the middle of the building, will feature a protected gymnasium and three kinesiology boxes. Next to the gymnasiums in both cases is the occupational therapy sector, where the patient is rehabilitated for the performance of daily tasks. Then, to make this whole centre function, are presented all the support areas: kitchen, deposits (supplies, clean and dirty clothes, waste), nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, personnel facilities (general dressing rooms, dining room, and on-duty staff bedrooms), etc. Regarding general services, some are

located in premises within the building (electrical switchboard room, medical gases room, rainwater recovery tank, and thermomechanical equipment condensate tank) and others outside the building and distributed in premises within the limits of the property (water machine rooms, generator, electric power processing chamber, cryogenic tank), in addition to a general storage warehouse and a sewage treatment plant.

Access The centre has a single general access from the route with a control office where the admissions of patients, family members, staff and supplies are processed. From this entrance, the flows are divided. Family members go to the main entrance of the building where the companion can step out of the car, and then park in a public area facing the front or go directly to the parking area of the hospital for palliative care towards the back of the building. The patient enters with his family member or is transported by ambulance. The staff goes to their own parking lots for cars, motorcycles and/or bicycles. The supplier has its own parking lot and manoeuvring area. All parking lots are close to the

respective entrances: public and technical, transported patient, staff and supplier. The IU for palliative patients has its own access. The access hall is organised with

an information area, a large lobby, and laterally located and integrated in the area is the coffee bar with a tree expansion. The idea was that the sensation when entering the building is pleasant not only for its design, lighting and colour but also for the smells. In this case, the predominant smell is that of coffee. This hall is connected with the spaces

where the patient and/or family member of the patient being admitted are received by the admission office and the administrative office. It is also the entrance to the management and administration areas of the centre. Close to the entrance is the auditorium for community outreach activities. From this hall, you can also enter the general circulation that structures the whole building.

Materials The building envelope, including the exterior masonry and the roofs, has been worked to preserve the ambient temperature according to the season, avoiding thermal losses in winter or gains in summer. To do this, having calculated the coefficient of thermal transmittance, it was defined to work with walls composed of ceramic bricks or concrete partition on the outside and a half a wall of plaster

rock partition with thermal insulation on the inside. The roofs will be made of concrete

slab, which will be worked with sectors of green terrace and others with pumice stone or similar to maintain the outside temperature and avoid the heat island effect so harmful to the environment.

Facilities The facilities will enter, from the corresponding engine rooms, to the building – where they will run through the main trunk circulation and from there they will be distributed to each of the sectors. Then they will be distributed through the ceilings of each sector. In addition, each IU will have thermomechanic engine rooms on top of rooms that limit the main circulation and that have sloping ceilings.

Cross-section by inpatient unit.

Sanitary installation We will work with a mixed energy system to heat the sanitary water, with conventional and solar energy thermotanks. The rainwater and condensate from the thermomechanical equipment will be recovered in a special tank to be used for irrigation and for the toilet valves, thus reducing the amount of
