TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Updates Knowledge-sharing and development

The Institute has engaged in several knowledge-sharing and development events during the last few weeks, with two informative conferences taking place. Preparations for Healthcare Estates 2024, the UK’s largest gathering for professionals involved in healthcare engineering, and estates and facilities management, are also well under way.

The evolution of ‘smart’ conferences

The UHEI Dublin Conference 2024, in partnership with IHEEM, offered a comprehensive programme in which industry experts discussed the latest policy updates and presented on new initiatives around estate management, sustainable buildings, smarter working, and the technology surrounding them. The conference provided insights on how to deliver an efficient, fit-for-purpose, and sustainable estate that delivers value for money and facilitates smarter working. Topics addressed by speakers included the evolution of ‘smart campuses’, with advanced strategies and cutting-edge technologies reshaping campus environments for improved productivity and innovation, along with strategies for planning and delivering a zero-carbon future by reducing environmental impact in healthcare infrastructure to achieve sustainability goals.

Successful racecourse event

The 2024 Innovation in Healthcare Conference and Exhibition, hosted by IHEEM’s East Midlands Branch, took place at Uttoxeter Racecourse on 11 September, and gathered an

audience interested in the latest innovative ideas for transforming the healthcare estate. The presentations included talks on how artificial intelligence, smart lighting solutions, chemical- free water treatments, ventilation systems, battery storage systems, and geothermal projects, can assist with and enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery to improve patient outcomes in the UK. Guest speakers outlined the value of these ground-breaking solutions for the healthcare sector, citing advantages such as adaptability, cost reduction, and benefits to both patients and healthcare staff.

Mentor training

The Institute is looking forward to the next IHEEM Mentor training taking place on 8 November at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. The training session is designed to ensure that mentors have the essential skills and knowledge to effectively support their mentees and build a successful mentoring relationship. To find out more about joining the IHEEM Mentor scheme, or to attend the training, please email: training@iheem.org.uk.

an AE. He has, in fact, recently had EngTech status conferred upon him by the Engineering Council.
