Fire Technical Platform SPOTLIGHT ON

P
eter Aldridge MSc, CMgr, MCMI, has had an interesting career evolution – from a diverse and challenging role as a fire safety advisor with the NHS, to his current position as the Associate
Director of Operational Estates at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The unique setting of his work has remained an engaging element of his roles throughout, which now extends to the safe and effective management of all aspects of the built estate. In addition to his direct estates management responsibility, Peter works in partnership with multiple other NHS organisations, and is developing a five-year workforce plan and the delivery of a new hospital. Limitations in funding and human resources can be challenging, but the oversight of fire and security in healthcare premises comes with its own rewards – put simply, ‘great teams, great work ethic, great people,’ he says. His security team winning the National Security Team of the Year Award 2023 was a notable career highlight, which both recognised and supported this observation. As a Chartered Manager, Peter would advise those

wealth of knowledge and passion. Established in 2022, the Platform’s
primary purpose is to provide expert guidance, advice, tools, and methodology, for healthcare system-wide issues, and, ultimately, to improve patient outcomes, efficiencies, and digital integration. The Platform primarily focuses on ensuring a strategic approach for every health infrastructure project, and delivery of lasting solutions that address the root causes of an issue, rather than focusing solely on the manifestation of the particular problem.
Activities
The SEMAP management group meets four times a year, with occasional additional meetings to respond to any urgent issues and policy changes. In addition, the wider membership meets twice annually so that everyone is fully briefed on the agenda and progress of the AP and its sub-groups – all of which are actively involved in the delivery of their own specific objectives. SEMAP aims to provide workshops, discussion forums, and webinars, and from 2025 plans to publish informative, topical, and educational articles in HEJ each month.
