Closing the Gaps Why Fragmentation Is iGaming’s Biggest Cyber Risk

As mobile-first ecosystems accelerate and AI-driven threats evolve, he outlines why unified, real-time trust frameworks, spanning identity, device, location and behaviour, are becoming critical to balancing security, compliance and player experience.
Where are the vulnerabilities in modern iGaming infrastructure?
Te biggest vulnerabilities live in the seams between systems that don’t talk to each other. Most operators run separate stacks for KYC, AML, fraud, geolocation, device integrity, and account security, each with its own vendor, its own data model, and its own view of the user.
Attackers exploit exactly those gaps. A session that looks clean to the fraud engine can be suspicious to the device attestation layer; a location anomaly means little without the behavioural context sitting in another system entirely. When these signals stay siloed, legitimate risk slips through and legitimate users get blocked, and neither team has the full picture to know why. Credential stuffing, account takeover, collusion, and bonus abuse all thrive in that fragmentation.
At Xpoint we focus on a specific layer of this problem, verifying location, device integrity, and session trust in real time, and we do that layer very well. But we are honest about the fact that our layer, done in isolation, is not the whole answer. Te industry’s real progress from here depends on vendors in adjacent domains developing shared protocols and deeper interoperability so that the signals we each generate can be correlated into a single, coherent picture of trust. Tat is a collaborative project, not a competitive one.
Layered on top of all of this is a newer and more structural concern: the acceleration of offensive capability through frontier AI. Anthropic’s recent disclosure that its Mythos Preview model autonomously chained Linux kernel vulnerabilities into a full privilege-escalation exploit, in an operating system that underpins most of the industry’s server infrastructure, makes the shift concrete rather than theoretical. Tis is an

emerging risk area that the whole ecosystem, not any single operator or vendor, will need to invest significantly to mitigate.
Has the shift toward mobile-first and cashless increased risk?
It has dramatically expanded what needs to be protected and compressed the time available to do it. Deposits, withdrawals, and in-session actions now happen in seconds, which means verification has to operate at the same tempo without becoming a bottleneck. Te mobile environment also introduces attack vectors that simply didn’t exist at scale a few years ago, remote-access apps being used to pilot a phone from thousands of miles away, sophisticated device spoofing, and scripted session automation. Te risk profile is also evolving faster than most operators have accounted for. Agentic AI systems capable of adapting in real time against controls are likely to reshape what mobile fraud looks like over the coming period. Mobile-first ecosystems are particularly exposed because the attack surface is rich, the tempo is fast, and the client environment should be treated as untrusted by default. Tis is going to be a significant investment area for the industry, and one where standing still is not a neutral choice, it is a losing one.
