Gerardo Prieto, Chief Information Security Officer at The Mill Adventure, outlines how AI- driven attacks, supply chain exposure and relentless automation are reshaping the iGaming threat landscape and why operators must rethink both their tech and mindset to keep pace.


Where are the biggest vulnerabilities in modern iGaming infrastructure today?


Te biggest vulnerabilities today are in supply chain security and the speed at which threat actors adapt. We all rely on external dependencies, and attackers know this. Tey are heavily using AI to rapidly evolve their tactics, finding zero-days – a previously unknown vulnerability that hackers exploit before the developer or vendor becomes aware of it – or weak links in third-party software much faster than before. Te reality is that traditional security programmes are simply not updated fast enough to match this pace. If you are reviewing your risk models and updating your defences only on a quarterly or yearly basis, you are already behind the attackers.


How is the volume of automated threats changing the technical landscape of iGaming?


Te technical landscape is changing because the sheer volume of automated attacks is overwhelming traditional defences. We face millions of malicious requests constantly hitting our APIs and infrastructure and it is physically impossible for any security team to keep up with this volume using manual analysis. To succeed today, we must fundamentally change our approach and aggressively prioritise our alerts to separate critical threats from standard background noise. Tis requires us to fully integrate automation and AI into our defence

architecture. We must use AI to identify complex, high-volume attack patterns in real-time, and rely on automated playbooks to block them instantly at the edge. You cannot fight machine-generated volume with human speed; you must use machines to defend against machines.


What does “good” cybersecurity preparedness look like in 2026?


Good preparedness means fighting fire with fire: attackers use AI for offensive security to scale attacks, so we must use AI defensively to detect anomalies. However, technology alone is not enough. You must constantly update and review your security programme and stay up to date with the latest threat intelligence news. In our industry, you must expect team burnout. True preparedness means having the maturity to know how to prioritise critical alerts so your team does not waste energy on noise. Finally, it requires deep security observability. You cannot protect what you cannot see in your network.


What’s the most common mistake operators still make?


Te most common mistake is confusing a good user experience with the removal of security controls. Tere is often pressure to make onboarding or betting so fast that security is pushed aside. Not considering security a core business priority in the world we live in today is a massive miscalculation. Ignoring security to save one click will eventually cost you your data, your money, and your reputation.
