Justin, the Super Bowl remains the most intense betting event in the US calendar. What stood out about traffic patterns this year? Te most notable factor was the sustainability of demand. Even without significant new market openings, and despite emerging competition from prediction markets, we still saw continued growth. Activity remains highly resilient, with no signs of tapering off. From a technical standpoint, there were no major surprises, but the sustained intensity reinforces how important the Super Bowl remains.

Connectivity utilisation rose more than 50 per cent compared with a standard weekend. What drove that spike? It’s largely driven by increased consumer activity across multiple platforms, which creates higher traffic volumes, but it also introduces operational challenges, particularly in cybersecurity.

distributed. Teir simpler, more binary betting experience may also result in lower transactional loads compared to traditional sportsbooks, where users navigate multiple markets and bet types.

Has reliance on real-time data increased operational risk during peak events? Absolutely. What the consumer sees as a single app is actually a complex chain of providers, cloud infrastructure, data feeds, payment systems, content providers and more. Each link represents a potential point of vulnerability, whether from a resilience or cybersecurity perspective. As real-time data becomes more critical, that complexity only increases.

Continent 8 implemented a five-pillar readiness programme. What proved most critical?

It’s not about one control - it’s about a holistic

approach. Preparation, awareness and learning from previous events are key. Every team, from network to security, operates with heightened awareness. Te

ability to respond to the unexpected is more important than relying on predefined solutions.

During these peaks, distinguishing legitimate traffic from potential threats like DDoS attacks becomes more complex. Preparation and experience are critical to avoid false positives while maintaining security.

Continent 8 saw a 25 per cent rise in connectivity during the week leading up to the game. Is the Super Bowl now a multi-day event? It has been for some time. While game day remains the peak, activity builds throughout the week. Consumers are constantly reacting to news, injuries and odds movements. It’s no longer a single-day spike - it’s a sustained cycle of engagement leading into the event.

How do prediction markets compare with traditional sportsbook workloads from a network perspective? Tey operate quite differently. In the US, sportsbooks are state- specific, whereas prediction markets typically run on more centralised platforms. Tat means traffic patterns are less

Te operational window stretched across five days. How has the definition of a “peak event” changed? It’s expanded significantly. We now treat the entire Super Bowl period as a high-activity window. Peaks are no longer confined to kick-off, they can be triggered by news, marketing campaigns or promotions. Tat unpredictability requires sustained readiness rather than short-term scaling.

Cloud connectivity rose more than 30 per cent. Is cloud-first now essential? Cloud is critical for elasticity, but it’s not a complete solution. Hyperscale providers offer significant capacity, but cost and
