Speaking to AMD about its latest chip designs raised even more questions about the future direction of embedded solutions for the gaming industry. We asked the leading exponents for their views on power, performance and pricing
How do you build embedded solutions that can cater not just for the demands of today’s game development needs, but can scale to support Machine Learning, Virtual Reality and Augmented Realty in the future?
Jon Jayal, Quixant: With each product launch, we seek to select the latest technology available at the time and bring it to market quickly enabling customers to access next generation technology early. Te high cost of seeking regulatory approvals means that manufacturers want to maximise the useful lifespan of the hardware they select and want the technology to have the capability to support whatever new features future games might offer. We also provide considerable support through our Gaming Ecosystem to help
customers improve the efficiency with which the hardware is utilised.
Clyde Chen, Axiomtek: In order to create embedded solutions that can cater for various applications needs, it is essential to work with chip manufacturers in order to gain reference advice for the different designs.
Mark Perkins, Heber: Embedded solutions are designed to have a long product life and are expected to be available for over five years, which is significantly longer than tradition PC life cycles. Clients looking to future proof their developments can look to the high end embedded products such as the AMD Embedded R-Series SOC, which Heber support with the Pluto A400.
