It’s been 11 years since G3 attended the first European Dealer Championship in Malaga, Spain, which featured a handful of operators and participants - and despite visiting the event on many occasions since, last month’s competition at the Hippodrome in London impressed the most with the scale and professionalism of the event.


The venue certainly helped, with the Hippodrome taking to the task with gusto, bringing theatre, performance and even adding good weather to the mix this year. To see all 33 participants from 21 countries gathered to celebrate the best dealing on the continent, was a special moment. And to witness the 31 judges grilling those entrants, seeking to trip with clever/horrible complexities at the tables, was thrilling.


The Hippodrome had been preparing and planning for over six months - and it showed. Each of the dealers was totally invested and it was great to see representation from the UK once again, even though it was an all European final.


Being a great dealer is a combination of technical skill, mental agility, engaging personality and a belief that delivering great customer service is the best feeling in the world. All of the above was present in the private rooms at the Hippodrome, where skill, flare and obsession were in evidence throughout.


A COMBINATION OF MENTAL AGILITY, PERSONALITY, TECHNICAL SKILL AND AN ABILITY TO DELIVER GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE


I’m fairly sure there can’t be many international sports/games competitions conducted in such a good-natured yet ruthlessly efficient manner as the European Dealer Championship. The sense of fun, hospitality and razor-sharp professionalism that pervades every aspect of the event, from the tables to the evening events and entertainment, makes it a fabulous experience from start to finish. This year was justifiably the ‘best ever.’


Speaking of hospitality, G3 would also like to thank our hosts in Bulgaria for taking care of the team as we compiled this month’s Sofia market update. We spent the most ‘dynamic’ two days visiting, well, just about everything, only catching our breath on the flight home. It was a fascinating insight into a market that has experienced a revolution in its gaming offer thanks to an altogether reasonable Gaming Act. Next time we hope to spend more than “10 minutes” there...
