AMD Computing in Gaming

While ML aims to learn from, mimic and supplement human behavior, virtual reality provides users with an entirely difference experience of the world: VR can so fully immerse viewers in a computer-generated environment that they believe they are actually inside it. VR applications typically require specialized head-mounted display devices, available from HTC, Oculus, Sony and others. The potential for VR in gaming is enormous, which has led AMD to currently collaborate with several companies that are focused on video game development for casino use. These games have the potential for use in casino lounge environments, providing a more intimate alternative to the slot- machine floor.


The ideas underpinning these technologies have been around for decades, but have been held back by the limitations of the computer processors that would drive them — the central processing unit (CPU) and graphic processing unit (GPU). Only recently have these limitations been breached. Advances in powering these new realities are being driven by companies such as AMD, developing the newest generations of server, PC and graphics processors.

Regardless of what you call this era of computing – instinctive, perceptual, intelligent, immersive – we are now at an inflection point where machines are in the early stages of being able to give humans the experience of realities beyond the one they’re in.


Casino operators are likely to be on the forefront of these macro trends. Tey are increasingly looking to provide customers with gaming options in realms beyond those of video games, but with a betting element – think first-person shooter and skill-based games.
