SPAIN – US casino operator Cordish Companies has come back with revised plans in its attempts to build a casino resort just outside Madrid with plans to bring a beach to the Spanish capital for the first time. The €2.2bn complex in Torres de Alameda would now have a 15 acre man-made lake complete with beach at the centre of its new blueprint. It has also added a World Soccer Hall of Fame Museum to its initial plans along with cinemas, themed discos and a centre for e-sports.
It was told to revise its initial plans by the local government two months ago. David Cordish, Cordish Chairman and Chief Executive, said in the FT: “It’s a 15-acre lake, which is perpetually cleaning itself. The water is crystal clear and blue. We are putting in a full beach. It will be Madrid’s beach.”

FRANCE – The Arévian Group has invested €1.3m to renovate the interior of its casino in Alvignac in the Lot region in south west France. The group, which operates nine casinos and three hotels in France, has also spent €500,000 on ten new slot machines. Antoine Arévian, CEO of the group, said the most spectacular element of the new interior was a panoramic bar, which allows 360 ° viewing of the entire casino.
The commune of Alvignac has a little more than 700 inhabitants. The casino is therefore one of the main contributors to the municipal budget. In fiscal year 2015/2016, it GGR of €6,043,531, down 2.14 per cent over the previous year. It is hopeful that this latest investment will allow the casino to reverse this trend.

Alexander Labak has been named as the designated successor to Karl Stoss, current Casinos Austria CEO, and is to be appointed to the Management Board of Casinos Austria as of June 1 and will take over the functions of Director General of Casinos Austria and Chairman of Austrian Lotteries’ Board on July 1.
In an extraordinary meeting of the Casinos Austria AG Supervisory Board chaired by its President, Walther Rothensteiner, the Board voted to appoint Alexander Labak to the Management Board as designated successor to Karl Stoss. Alexander Labak (born 1962) holds a degree in Business Studies and has extensive international experience above all in the financial services and insurance sector, most recently in London, UK. At the same time, he will be appointed to the Board of Austrian Lotteries with effect from 1 July 2017, where he will assume the role of Chairman.

Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group have just posted the best financial year in their 50-year corporate history. In 2016, the group posted increases in revenues in all its business units. Tis led to an eight per cent rise in group revenues to a record €3,885.95m.
Sustained investments in improving and extending its portfolio as well as measures to improve efficiency also led to the group achieving clear increases in results: operating results rose by 49 per cent to €150.1m, while group consolidated results were up by 65 per cent to €91.2m.
