US - Governor Steve Sisolak defends decision Nevada’s Governor Steve Sisolak has defended his decision to keep the state's casinos open despite rising levels of COVID-19 infections, as he looks to balance public welfare with the economy.
Despite full casino closures in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Illinois, Nevada will instead allow casinos to operate at 25 per cent of capacity.
Governor Sisolak said: “I know it’s hard for Nevadans to reconcile why some areas of our economy and public life are restricted while the State’s casinos are open. The gaming industry are under the same restrictions as many of our small businesses, and in some cases, even tougher restrictions. Restaurants and bars in casinos face the same capacity limits as those in our neighbourhoods.
“Gaming floors have been reduced to 25 per cent as well. In fact, under the authority of the Gaming Control Board, the gaming industry is arguably the most regulated industry in the State – they hold privileged licenses. They must follow strict mitigation directives and face tough consequences if they don’t.
“And I think it’s important to make this 100 per cent clear: when I think of the gaming industry, I am not losing sleep at night because I'm worried about their stock prices or whether gaming executives are going to make it through the pandemic and be able to keep a roof over their heads. I lose sleep at night because when we were under a stay at home order in the spring, we lost a quarter of a million jobs in three months in this State and that’s largely due to casinos being closed for 78 days straight.”
US - FSB records 216 per cent increase FSB are enjoying a record-breaking NFL season following a strong jump in November numbers. Headline stats from FSB’s NFL season to date include a 25 per cent jump in margin year on year and a 13 per cent increase in average wager size. This has led to a 216 per cent year on year increase in turnover from NFL markets and odds.
Mark Wilson, Head of Trading at FSB, commented on the statistics: “We have been committed to bulking up our US sports coverage in 2020 and these numbers are a testament to that. As you can imagine, our partners are absolutely delighted, too. Throughout the year we’ve been adding more in-play and derivative markets to our NFL content portfolio so it’s great to see that these have been popular.”
The news comes as FSB prepares to enter the North American market for the first time, bolstering its US senior management team with the appointment of Bob Akeret as Vice President of Operations North America.

betting profits out of the hands of organised crime, revenues could instead be directed towards health care and education initiatives, as has been done with other lottery revenues. Tese changes would also create opportunities to work with Indigenous communities to strengthen their participation in the gaming industry.”
Te federal government would maintain its role in overseeing pari-mutuel betting on horse racing. Te proposed amendments would give provinces and territories the discretion to manage single event sport betting in their respective jurisdictions and offer Canadians an opportunity to place bets in a regulated environment either online or in physical facilities.
By taking illegal betting profits out of the hands of organised crime, the revenues generated from provincial and territorial-operated gambling could be used by provinces and territories to fund programmes and services in areas such as health care and education, as they currently do with other lottery revenues. Te proposed amendments also clearly respond to calls from labour leaders, particularly in communities along the Canada-U.S. border, following similar changes made in a number of border states.
which will allow us to re-enter the strong Maryland gaming market and add a twentieth gaming jurisdiction to our leading nationwide footprint,” said Jay Snowden, President and CEO of Penn National. “In addition, with the recent approval of sports betting through the overwhelming passage of Question 2 on Election Day, Maryland is expected to soon become a significant retail and mobile sports betting market. As such, this acquisition provides another opportunity to expand our unique omni-channel platform with a Barstool- branded retail sportsbook and mobile app,” concluded Mr. Snowden.
