Compact, Compatible, AI-Capable Advantech refreshes DPX for OEM agility

Speaking at G2E Las Vegas, Koen Stomph, Vertical Industry Expert Gaming at Advantech Europe, explains how the new DPX-S460 and DPX-M2280 combine integrated AI acceleration, DDR5 support and proven backward compatibility to give OEMs a stable, future-ready platform.

Koen, Advantech launched two new DPX platforms at G2E. What challenges are these new systems designed to address?

Our approach always follows the technology roadmap set by the major silicon vendors, AMD and Intel. Not every generation brings a leap forward, but the most recent updates from both have delivered genuine, tangible advances. Tat’s why we’re introducing new DPX platforms now.

It’s also about consistency. We first launched the DPX format back in 2006, and it continues to be fully supported to this day. Tat kind of longevity matters to OEM partners. It demonstrates that we are committed to maintaining form factors, pin compatibility and long life cycles, which are essential factors in gaming, where equipment must be reliable for many years.

How does the new DPX-S460, powered by AMD’s Ryzen 8000 APU with integrated NPU, change what’s possible in gaming devices?

AI is increasingly important in gaming, it’s not just as a buzzword, but as a real enabler of innovation. Te integration of an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) directly on the board gives developers far more freedom to experiment with AI-driven features without consuming valuable CPU resources.

Tat might mean more intelligent interaction between player and machine, adaptive game logic, or advanced operational analytics. Regulation still limits some of what can be done, but having the hardware capability built in allows developers to explore new

possibilities when legislation eventually catches up. Some of our customers are already building that capacity into their systems now, even if they’re not yet deploying it.

From your perspective, is AI in gaming a genuine evolution or just industry hype?

It’s both. Tere’s definitely hype, but it’s not unfounded. A lot of Artificial Intelligence is already happening behind the scenes, for example, in game content creation or code optimisation.

Te area that draws the most attention is dynamic, player-facing AI, but that has to evolve carefully, within the boundaries of data protection and responsible gaming regulations

At Advantech, we see ourselves as the enablers. We don’t define what the game or operator should do; we provide the technology platform that makes it possible when they’re ready and permitted to implement it.

How important is backward compatibility within the DPX family for OEM partners?

Extremely important. Many of our customers have been with us since that first DPX board launched back in 2006. Tey rely on the reassurance that we’ll maintain continuity across generations.

Our message is: let us handle the hardware evolution so you can focus on your core business, game development, player experience, compliance, and deployment.
