Automating the Casino Floor Cash management, staffing challenges and future-proofing operations
As JCM Global marks its 70th anniversary, Payam Zadeh, General Manager EMEA and Managing Director UK, discusses how the company’s Intelligent Cash Box (ICB) and system solutions are redefining cash management across European casinos, improving security, reducing costs, and addressing the sector’s growing staffing challenges.
Payam, what’s been the focus for JCM Global in Europe this year?
In Europe, our main focus has been on optimising the cash management cycle, connecting our Intelligent Cash Box (ICB) systems and driving automation throughout the process. We’re working on solutions that help casinos reduce operational costs, manage cash more efficiently, and cope with staffing shortages.
We recently received an award for our ICB ASAP system, which integrates with robotic cash-handling technology. For Europe, we’re adapting this for smaller casino environments, providing the same level of automation and transparency that large U.S. casinos enjoy, but tailored to venues operating on a different scale.
European casinos vary enormously in size. How scalable is this kind of solution?
Tat’s one of the key advantages of our approach - scalability. In the U.S., you may have casinos with 2,000 or more machines.
In Europe, the largest venues might have around 1,000, like in Cyprus, while others have far fewer, 400 in Germany, or just 20 in the UK. But even with smaller estates, preparing and reconciling those machines is a major task. Our ICB system allows operators to automate much of that process, improving speed and accuracy. It’s a real revolution for operators who previously needed hours to prepare and hours to close every day. Now, they can open longer, reduce manual work, and reassign staff to focus on players rather than counting machines.

Is this primarily an efficiency play, or are the benefits wider than that?
Efficiency is certainly a big part of it, but it’s also about sustainability. Across Europe, casinos are struggling to find skilled staff. Many are having to close earlier or open later simply because they don’t have enough people to prepare the machines. With automation, casinos can stay open longer, increase productivity, and reduce the strain on teams.
It’s not about replacing staff; it’s about supporting them. Te system provides the tools they need to work more effectively and accurately, especially when you consider the value of cash circulating on a casino floor.
How does the system handle the combination of cash and tickets now common in casinos?
Tat’s an important point. Our ICB and Ticket2Go solutions are fully integrated. Whether it’s cash or TITO tickets, the system treats them both as part of the same reconciliation process. Operators can instantly see how much is in each cashbox, cash or ticket, and manage everything from a single system. It speeds up the entire process and removes uncertainty.
Are most casinos already moving in this direction, or is this still early adoption?
