Tips for Continuous Improvement, both Personal and Professional

Start measuring. Try keeping a journal. This can be helpful whether you are trying to lose weight or make better use of your time, both at home or at work. Start by creating a base- line for your numbers. Keeping track of your current activities and habits is the first step in improving them in a specific way. Also, enjoy the opportuni- ties ahead and the excitement of starting something new.


Trust, but verify. This is the foundation of quality control. Therefore, we use fixtures and test gauges to make sure that parts are within tolerance. Don’t assume that if a process made a good part once it will continue to produce the same result. Remember, even good people make mistakes.


Invest in technology. If you have the option to use a drone or

Network. Networking expands your range of access to informa- tion and solutions. Network your computers to access your tools and information remotely. And, network within your company and with peers outside your industry.


Be confident in your success. Henry Ford said, “Whe th er you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Confidence in your abilities will set the bar for your success. If you don’t believe you can fix the machine, you will find every excuse not to do it.


Embrace social media. It can be tough for many people to use, but social media can be useful even if used a little. Try to find one or two platforms that help you to connect with likeminded individuals. A small amount of inspiration or encouragement, even from some- one you don’t know directly, can be very helpful.
